SSE Suomen Säätöenergia Oy is a project developing company, focusing on sustainable energy solutions. SSE developing a network of hybrid refineries in Finland. The facilities are built and operated by Northern Biomethanol Ltd (in Finnish: Pohjolan Biometanoli Oy), which is a subsidiary of SSE.
Today, energy wood and forest chips are mainly used in methods based on direct combustion. SSE is creating a plant network that increases the efficiency of using wood-based biomass by producing biomethanol. This production method combines three well-known technologies in industrial production: gasification of wood pulp, electrolytic hydrogen production and methanol synthesis are integrated into one plant unit – a hybrid refinery. Waste heat can also be utilised in local central heating systems.
With its partners, SSE plans to build the biggest network of biorefineries in the Nordics.

SSE’s team has long-term and diverse experience in planning and implementing various projects, guaranteeing solid expertise in project management of large international companies and the success of domestic regional development projects and project deliveries. An important part of the team’s competence is also knowledge of legislative work and an understanding of the impact of regulation on business operations.
The business of the company’s partner companies includes importation, project management and business management consulting.
